Anna Siomopoulos has published articles on American film and culture in journals such as Cinema Journal, Camera Obscura, The Moving Image, Film History, Arizona Quarterly, and most recently, New Review of Film and Television Studies and Quarterly Review of Film and Video, as well as in several edited collections. She is the author of Hollywood Melodrama and the New Deal: Public Daydreams and her screenplay, Telling It Like It Is, was second-place runner-up in the comedy category at the Woods Hole Film Festival and a finalist in the Boston International Film Festival Screenplay-to-Production Contest.
Her current book project, “The Couple Contract in Hollywood Cinema," considers the representation of the white couple in Hollywood genre film over the past ninety years. "The couple contract" describes the tension between, on the one hand, Hollywood film's representation of the state's economic relationship to the white couple, and, on the other hand, Hollywood's tendency to mask the power dynamics of this changing relationship beneath the generic conventions of heterosexual romance.
