Dr. Uma Chandrika Millner (pronouns: she/her) is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences at Bentley University and licensed psychologist in Massachusetts. Prior to Bentley, she worked as a researcher at Boston University and taught as part-time faculty in the graduate program in mental health counseling program at Boston College and as full-time faculty at the undergraduate program in psychology and applied therapies Lesley University. Her overall professional approach is grounded in social justice and multiculturalism.
Dr. Millner is very passionate about teaching and has a strong commitment to diversity in the classroom setting. Dr. Millner’s research is largely intersectional, bridging areas of vocational psychology, psychiatric rehabilitation, and multiculturalism. Dr. Millner has conducted numerous research projects involving qualitative and quantitative methodologies focused on community integration of adults living with serious mental health conditions and the mental health of multicultural populations. As a participatory researcher, Dr. Millner partners with individuals with lived experience to inform and develop her research projects.
Dr. Millner is also committed to service in the community. Dr. Millner has a private practice where she provides psychotherapy services to individuals, families, and couples. Dr. Millner volunteers for local organizations in the Greater Boston area and developed a grassroots organization called INDEAR to provide psychological first aid to front-line workers in India during the Covid-19 pandemic. She has provided numerous trainings and workshops in collaboration with mental health organizations in India.
