Abstract

This paper highlights several government-maintained datasets for Central and Eastern European countries, with special emphasis upon variables related to foreign direct investment. The analysis examines overarching trends, as well as important information for researchers including reliability issues, collection techniques, and measurement units. Specific datasets that are discussed include the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies’ (WIIW) database on FDI in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Bank on-line resources, as well as the CroStat (Croatian Central Bureau of Statistics) the Czech Statistical Office, and national investment promotion agencies.
