Abstract
The purpose of this panel presentation is to shed light on a series of important questions about the relationship of FDI and economic development in the Republic of Turkey. This is accomplished by examining the existing scholarly theoretical and empirical literature, and discussing its findings in relation to FDI flows in Turkey. The questions include whether FDI encourages economic growth in the host country, with special reference to local firms. In addition, we consider FDI in the context of rising protectionism and the extent to which foreign investment promotion is worth the effort.
