Abstract

America‚Äôs response to the launch of Sputnik in 1957, and decision four years later to send men to the Moon, profoundly shaped the course of our nation. Amidst calls for a new ‚ÄúSputnik Moment‚Äù to galvanize the American body politic to respond to contemporary problems, this presentation will revisit the first ‚ÄúSputnik Moment‚Äù and its consequences, and will challenge participants to explore how these lessons can be applied today.
