Abstract
Secessionist and autonomous movements in the Terai region of southern Nepal have added a new layer of conflict to an already volatile political situation. The Maoist armed uprising and the pro-democracy movement of Nepal, which culminated in mass demonstrations that ultimately led Nepal to abolish the monarchy, have apparently taught the Madhese of the Terai two key lessons
